I stumbled upon some awesome home décor resources yesterday when I was checking on my resume links. One of my previous contract publishers, now known as Leaf Group, has transformed their business model to include marketplace brands. Two of the lifestyle brands they created and promote are Deny Designs and society 6.
For those who love eclectic or bohemian decorating styles or anyone who appreciates original artwork and a unique sense of style, Deny Designs and society 6 are right up your alley.
A Closer Look at Deny Designs
Deny Designs is a progressive, forward-thinking company based in a picturesque suburb of Denver, Colorado. The art inspired décor created in Deny’s industrial-chic warehouse helps promote and support the work of about 180 different artists from all over the globe.
The best part is the affordability. Add dimension and color to your walls with canvas art for just $24.00. Accessorize with lively, fun patterns on bedding, bath accessories, soft furnishings, accent furniture and wall art throughout your home.
Brighten your furniture with art inspired accent pillows (starting at just $39) or use colorful floor cushions for casual seating in a bedroom, game room or family room. (starting at just $89)
The artists’ gallery page showcases the work of Deny’s contributing artists. Click on an individual design to see what type of home furnishings and décor currently feature that print or pattern. Create a sense of unity in your home by using your favorite print or pattern on different accessories in adjoining rooms.
For example, if you have a couple of these striking “Purple Romance” accent pillows on your sofa in the living room…
Consider hanging a tapestry of “Green Romance” on your dining room wall.
Separating accessories with the same pattern in different areas of the home or using alternate colors will help you avoid a look that is too matchy-matchy.
When you see something you like, check out the artist’s individual collection of work. I really like the graphic designs of Gina Rivas, and especially her use of intense, dramatic color. This moodboard shows how her various design collections could be used together throughout your home. Click on it to see more work by Rivas.
No matter what you’re into, you’re likely to find something that intrigues you at Deny Designs.
Introducing Society 6
Society 6 is similar to Deny Designs but on a much larger scale. According to the company’s About Us page, society 6 produces consumer goods featuring the work of hundreds of thousands of artists scattered all over the world.
If you’re an artist, all you need to do is become a verified member of society 6, upload a high-resolution image of your artwork and make a post about it on the site. Artists retain the rights to their work and also set the price for framed prints and stretched canvases.
If your artwork is selected for distribution by one of society 6’s Retail Partners, it can be made into additional products sold in their online stores. Artists are paid on the published profits of consumer goods featuring their artwork, which they still retain the rights to.
Society 6 also customizes area rugs and curtains, which aren’t offered yet at Deny Designs. Choose from thousands of stunning original print designs. Rugs are available in three sizes ranging from:
- 2’ x 3’ — $35
- 3’ x 5’ — $65
- 4’ x 6’ — $95
Inject your personality into a room by finding a rug that reflects your witty sense of humor or your quirky, fun loving mood. This vintage-style print of a dancing breakfast by Teo Zirinis brings to mind the dancing refreshments that enticed movie goers in the mid-twentieth century.
If the natural world is more your thing, you’ll find a large variety of floral and botanical designs that can help bring a sense of serenity into your home. Lightweight polyester curtain panels allow filtered light to enter the room when closed and are available in single ($80) or double panels ($120).
Add a tropical vibe with this palm leaf print by Orara Studio.
Or go with the bold, vivid colors of “Exotic Flower Garden” by CatyArte.
No matter what your home’s decorating style, theme or color scheme is, you’re bound to find something that speaks to you at society 6.
It’s also a great place to look for gifts for family and friends that you know well.
After all, it’s not about how much you spend, but the thought behind the gift that counts!
