Hi, my name is Michelle, and I’m the author here at Home Decorating News. I started this blog in 2008, to help market and showcase the home décor and furniture I sold on my website, HomeTreasureCove.com. It evolved into decorating ideas after I closed my store and then went dormant for a few years, following a serious car accident that turned my life upside down for a while. For nine years it remained on Blogger, until I imported everything over to Word Press in April, 2018.
Please bear with me as I try to update and fix the older archived posts. The plug-in I used to move the content seemed to work pretty well but was far from perfect. I am still new to Word Press and figuring out how everything works. But if you find broken links, missing images, etc., please feel free to e-mail me.
Keeping up with an online retail store is exhaustive work. Years of endless data entry, to ensure my hand-picked inventory always stayed up to date, was really starting to wear me down. Sharing inspiration and ideas for decorating and do it yourself projects through articles, community advice forums and blog posts became much more rewarding and engaging. It also became quite profitable, allowing me to transition from an online seller to a freelance writer.
So, I shifted my focus toward the creative side of home decorating and earned a diploma as an interior decorator in 2013. Shortly after that, I closed my online store to focus full-time as an expert contributor and consultant on interior decorating.
As a Featured Contributor on Design and Decorating at Yahoo Voices, one of my articles on teenage bedroom decorating ideas “went viral” as they say. Over the course of one day, the page views soared into the hundreds of thousands, earning me the Rising Star Award for 2011. I was able to recover this popular piece when Yahoo discontinued the Contributor Network in 2014 and released the publishing rights for all articles back to the original authors. I updated and republished the article here in 2015. I plan to update it again very soon.
Some of the other online publishing companies I have enjoyed working for include Demand Media, now known as StudioD or Leaf Group and LoveToKnow.com. You can also find my articles on sites such as eHow, SF Gate and Hunker.com.
I will admit one of my weak points – I have neglected my social media. I kept myself too busy writing and was also battling some serious health issues. Hopefully those are behind me now and going forward, I plan to be much more active on my social accounts. My social media links are on the left sidebar; just scroll up or down if you cant see them and please feel free to connect with me there.
If you need any help or decorating advice, please don’t hesitate to contact me. My contact form is on the left sidebar as well. Thanks for stopping by!
